"Better Than Home Made"
Do you remember cozying up to your Aunt Ruth to ask her a hard question about life? Or sitting down in the kitchen with your Granny Audrey hoping to catch some crunchy crumbs of wisdom so you could make some quality life decisions? Well, Dr. Astra P. Brantley (fondly known as Dr.B) is like your Auntie, your Granny, and a seasoned Christian therapist providing you counsel that is “better than home made.”
And speaking of home, Dr.B grew up in East St. Louis, Illinois in a single parent home with her younger sister, Fronzie (who is now a retired health-care executive). Both sisters have married sons who are surgeons. Fronzie has a second son who is differently-abled and a steadfast source of unconditional love, and astute mischief.
Dr.B’s son, Damon (who is known as Doc B), and her husband, Bob (a seminary PH.D.) have collaborated in their family-health care ministry/business called The Brantley Group for many years on a local, national and international basis. Their serene and welcoming home-based practice, appropriately named Near Haven, was located in Baltimore County. Services provided at Near Haven were based upon a commitment to excellence, and to being personally and corporately Bible-based, Christ-centered, and Spirit-led.
Dr.B is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the state of Maryland, holds a Doctor of Psychology Degree, and is thoroughly credentialed in her field of work. In addition, she and Bob are the first two Christian Conciliators in Maryland to be certified by the Institute for Christian Conciliation. Since 2001, Dr.B has served as a crisis counselor with a national organization named R3 Continuum, former known s Crisis Care Network.
She has been published on the topics of workplace bullying, clinical supervision, collaboration between clergy and psychologists, grief, and the grace of God’s accountability. Dr.B. has presented to professional organizations on the topics of the comparison of Christian Conciliation to secular research on forgiveness, peacemaker marriages, Christian clinical supervision, trauma-informed care, workplace bullying, marriage God-style, and stress. Many of her clients have reduced stress using her CD called ‘Strength to Change.” She recently presented a highly acclaimed day long workshop on sex entitled “For God’s Women Only: Let’s talk about sex.” Most recently, she and her husband, Bob, have co-authored two books promoting the “testimony-driven life.”
